Briancon, France

Moving on to Briancon itself, an inredibly beautiful medieval town.

It is the highest town in France and the second highest in Europe, sitting above 1500m.

It's little, very pristine and a joy to walk through particularly at night or when there are few tourists.  You need your flats and a set of lungs, the road that runs through the centre is steep.  A delight of a place which is not like staying in a ski resort.  Because it's not a ski resort, it's a medieval town that happens to be next to the ski slopes therefore attracts people who like to ski and those who prefer not to.  Situated within 30kms of the Italian boarder, it has as many Italians as it does French and therefore a cosmopolitan feel.  Few Brits, NO Russians and certainly no other Kiwis!

Post ski for me, Katya in civies due to her knee

A very delicious beef tartare which I had again another night.  It might look gross but it tasted divine
