I chose Flavigny-sur-Ozerain as an
overnight trip because Andy and I hadnt been to that part of Burgundy and it
was only just before we left that I discovered the movie Chocolat was filmed
there. Huh. I wouldn’t have chosen it if I knew that
because I would have thought too touristy.
As it turned out it was nice and quiet but I can see it would get pretty
busy at times (the telling bus park areas just outside the village walls).
It’s a pretty village, sitting high on a
hill (which I ran up the next morning and a decent hill it was!). Fully walled, very old and quaint. Our bed and breakfast was a renovated barn
dating back from the 14th or 15th century.
I had decided we’d go casual for
dinner. There was a reputed pizza
hamburger place a few kms down the road. Apparently people travel from Dijon to have these pizzas (really???). Danger signs should have rung when we had to preorder our food. Not having a clue at all what the place was
about we pitched up 15 minutes late to our precooked pizzas and burger sitting
in boxes (pizzas) glad wrap (dad’s burger).
The process was you grabbed your order and
took it to the room next door with your wine to sit and eat (more casual than
you can possibly imagine and this particular evening is now a huge laughing
point for us).
Our pizzas were soggy having been sitting
in the box. But that was not so
bad. Dad’s burger, now THAT was
bad. It looked really sad sitting there
sweating in it’s glad wrap. It’s the
first time I’ve ever heard dad say anything was not good and he said “it was a
bit mushy” ... now for dad to say that means it was pretty bad. Poor dad! He managed to give it a good old Bowdie go. I felt so bad ... all my research and I chose this place for our first
dinner out, their first out in France ever?
Nat!!!
Anyway we have had endless laughs about that pizza place and the
breakfast the bnb put on the next morning was a glorious affair. But gotta say, it was funny seeing the bnb owner's surprise when we were back from dinner within 45 minutes of leaving. We just said we were tired, but really how long do people usually spend in a shed eating soggy pizza and burger? It's not a place to linger!!

The bon bons made in this town are very delicious, this is their van |

Dad getting into his sad burger. He got the XL size, god knows what the medium size would have been!! |

That's dad sort of slurping up his burger. He managed to give it a good old Bowdie go and got it down. |
